The Inle Lake is an ideal stopover on the trip from Yangon to Mandalay.

The day starts early at the Inle Lake in Myanmar. A loudspeaker transmits exotic sounds from Mya Thein Tan monastery, which is like a white magic castle on the eastern lakeside amid the green mountainsides.
Long before the sun dissolves the first fog, fishermen sliding already in their boats over the water. For generations have the Intha "people of the lake", who developed a rowing technique that is unique in the world: The Longyi, the traditional wraparound skirt, gathered on the knee, the fishermen have one foot on a small platform at the stern, while the other loop to an oar.
So they move the boats with powerful paddles knocks and have both hands free.

In Nampan, on the southern lake side, is every day a hustle and bustle. Hundreds of boats are at the muddy shore. Whoever comes too late, must first climb over half a dozen boats to have solid ground under their feet. Like all markets of East Asia is also Nampan fascinated through the crowd of people, the strange smells and bright colors. Farmers of Inle Lake sell their products: tomatoes, cauliflower and eggplant, for example. The fields are not on the mainland, they are in the middle of the water. The vegetables grow on floating mats, which are coated with mud and then secured with bamboo poles in only about three meters deep.
